My philosophy on spending money on clothes.

I, as well as all of you I’m sure, are faced with the dilemma of, “how much you should be spending on a given item?”  Well, it is really all relative to be honest with you, but these are the guidlines I follow to buying (I’ll keep this short.)

  • Buy as few as possible, and the best thing you can afford.

If you follow this rule you will end up with a wardrobe that is comprised of pieces that you love.  It’s better to have a small wardrobe you love, and will last, than a large wardrobe you don’t care for, and will fall apart.

  • Is the brand worth it?

Make sure you ask yourself if the label is worth the price-tag.  The luxury of designer names is not always worth how much you are spending, especially on something like chinos.  Is the extra $300 worth the name? probably not.

  • Spend most on what you wear most.

Pretty self explanatory.  If you’re going to be wearing it often, spend a little more, it’ll be worth it.

  • Spend within your means

I never, ever buy clothes on a credit card.  I only spend on clothes with cash, and debit.  I guess my dad has put the notion in me not to spend more than I have, and I apply that to clothes, especially if it isn’t a necessity.

Obviously, there are you guys out there that can afford essentially anything they want, but whether you are on a budget, or just lack a disposable income, make sure you consider all of your options when buying.
